How to Convert PBM to PCX

PCX dates back to MS-DOS paint programs in the early 1980s, around the same era PBM was introduced, and both formats share a certain simplicity in design, even though PCX supports far more color depth than PBM's strictly bilevel structure. Converting PBM to PCX is mainly relevant for compatibility with legacy software or older imaging tools that specifically expect PCX input.

Since PBM's source data is already minimal, this conversion is mostly a container change — PCX's RLE compression actually handles flat black-and-white content quite efficiently, so file size differences should be modest in either direction.
